Kind of like the Twitch or YouTube streams of today, but always and everywhere. The first is the Blink network, a 24/7 social networkthat combines the feeds that nearly everyone broadcasts from their own tiny body cameras into constantly streaming channels for users to subscribe to. There are two important speculative technologies of note that add to the light hearted hardships Zoey faces throughout the novel. The story follows Zoey to Tabula Ra$a, an incredibly high-tech basically lawless wonder-city in the Utah desert built by billionaires, who think Las Vegas is entirely too strict and regimented. After a tense car chase from a man with metal teeth and hydraulic jaws, Zoey quickly realizes that has, over night, become both the most famous and the most wanted person in the world. Set in a speculative future just a couple decades from today, this novel follows protagonist Zoey Ashe, a trailer park residing barista who would be otherwise unremarkable were it not for the multi-billion dollar inheritance she just received from her estranged and recently exploded technology investment guru/philanthropist/criminal mastermind father. Well David Wong has done just that with his latest novel Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits. Imagine a world where the fabulously wealthy could build and develop technologies and lifestyles without any of those pesky authoritative hurdles, like law and order for example.
Well, I guess that’s not too much of a stretch, let me rephrase that.
Imagine a world-city where rich people can do whatever they wanted.
